The Coastal Horse Care Unit called out to investigate the truck with injured horses which had been offloaded just outside PMB. The truck had broken down and had been standing on the side of the road with cattle and horses on it for two days. The animals were not given food or water during this time. The animals had travelled from Guateng area and were on their way to the Eastern Cape. The truck was not road worthy and both horses and horned cattle were travelling together in the same section. Team Coastal found a dead foal and other injured animals on the truck and called a vet out to treat the animals. One of the horses was so badly gored it had to be humanly euthanized. We took the badly injured mare and foal back to the unit in Cato Ridge for Veterinary care. They are doing well.
